Maintaining a healthy and fit lifestyle is not an easy task, but it can be achieved with devotion and determination.A healthy lifestyle is a combination of clean eating habits and physical exercise. Eating clean means consuming nutrient-dense foods that fuel your body, provide energy, and promote overall well-being. Physical exercise is moving your body in a way that feels good to you. In this blog post, we will discuss some practical tips for eating clean and staying fit.

PLAN YOUR MEALS

CHOOSE NUTRIENT-DENSE FOODS

When it comes to eating clean, focus on nutrient-dense foods that provide your body with the nutrients it needs. Nutrient-dense foods include vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid processed and refined foods. These foods can be triggering for some and provide empty calories and can lead to weight gain, inflammation, and other health problems.

ONE PLATE FOR YOUR PORTIONS

Managing your portions is an essential part of eating clean and maintaining a healthy weight. Even healthy foods can lead to weight gain if you eat too much of them.I personally, weigh and measure my food on a Food Scale. This supports my recovery from food addiction. It also teaches me what portions look like, keeps me accountable.Use a food scale or measuring cups to ensure that you are eating the amount of food that supports your journey. Eat slowly and enjoy each bite to help you feel full and satisfied.

DRINK UP

Drinking plenty of water is essential for staying hydrated and promoting overall health. Water helps flush toxins out of your body, aids in digestion, and helps you feel full. It also gives us that H20 glow! Skin loves it! Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, and more if you are physically active. I drink a lot of water! Ways to get fancy water in, add fresh vegetables or fruit. For example, Cucumber slices are great during summer months, while Lemon and Ginger will add some zing to your glass of H20.

MINDFUL EATING

Mindful eating means being present and fully engaged in the act of eating. On my own journey, I have found this to be incredibly healing. Eating is part of my meditative practice. It involves paying attention to your body's hunger and fullness cues, as well as the taste, texture, and smell of your food. At Layer and Flavor, it’s about all the flavors that make a meal fabulous, and better for us! Mindful eating can help you avoid overeating and make healthier food choices.I like to take about 30 minutes to eat.

HOMEMADE IS HEALING

Cooking at home is an effective way to eat clean and empower the quality of your food. When you cook at home, you know exactly what goes into your food, and you can layer and flavor in a way that works for you. Nowadays, I find more and more that I am super disappointed when I dine out, because I enjoy my home-cooked meals so much more.Try to cook more meals at home and experiment with healthy recipes that incorporate a variety of whole foods.

LET'S TALK SNACKS

For some, snacking works. If that’s you. Snacking can be a healthy part of your day if you choose higher quality foods. For others, snacking may not work. As a food addict, I personally do not incorporate snacks into my day. I do, however, include athletic additions on heavy fitness days. Either way, instead of reaching for processed snacks like bars, chips, and cookies, choose nutrient-dense snacks like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. These foods provide energy.
